Who runs this, where the books come from, and how it pays for itself.
What this is
LittleBookMatch suggests a young child’s next book from what they do with a book — chewing it, lifting the flaps, sitting through a story — rather than from how old they are. Every other children’s book finder sorts by age band. None of them asks the question a parent asks at the shelf.
There is no account, no sign-up and no list to join. Answer three questions and you get five books with a line of reasoning each.
How the books are chosen
By a ranking we wrote, from a list of books we built and checked by hand. It weighs what your child does with a book, what they already love, and how far to step up from there.
No publisher, shop or author pays to be on the list, and none of them can. The ranking does not know what anything costs or what anything pays — that information is not in the data it reads.
How this site makes money
Not yet. The buy links go straight to the shop and no shop pays us anything for them.
It will. We are joining the Amazon and Bookshop.org affiliate programmes, which pay a commission when somebody buys a book after following a link from here. This page and the line above the buy links are written from the same switch, so they change in the same edit as the money does.
Where the book information comes from
Titles, authors, page counts and cover images come from Open Library, a project of the Internet Archive, with some details filled in from Google Books. The list was then cut down and corrected by hand — the catalogues are built for librarians, not for a parent standing at a shelf, and a lot of what they hold is the wrong edition, the wrong audience, or a sticker book.
Cover images are shown from Open Library’s own servers rather than copied onto ours. They remain the copyright of their publishers and are shown to help you recognise the book.
What this site does not do
It will not ask you to sign up, it will not email you, and it will not carry advertising. There are no cookies and no tracking between sites.
It also will not tell you which books are right for a two-year-old, because that is not a question with an answer.
